Carling Loves Cats Quilt Coat Class

Supply List

Pattern Required: Carling Loves Cats Quilt Coat

Fabric and Materials:

  • Quilt: 60" x 90” (Or, if you are making your own quilted yardage: use 4 yards of outer fabric—cut into two 2-yard pieces and sew them together along the selvage edge; and 4 yards of lining fabric—also cut into two 2-yard pieces and sewn together along the selvage edge. Layer with batting and quilt.)
  • 1.5 yards coordinating fabric for bias binding (Quilt-As-You-Go method)
  • Thread to match

Tools and Supplies:

  • Your sewing machine in good working order, foot control, and power cord
  • Quarter inch foot and walking foot (recommended)
  • Iron and heat-safe pressing mat
  • Sewing accessories including scissors, seam ripper, sewing pins or clips
  • Paper scissors and painters or masking tape
  • 45mm rotary cutter and mat (18" x 24")
  • Quilting ruler (6" x 18") or similar

Before class:

  • Quilt sandwich quilted. (Note: I have a YouTube video that demonstrates how I cut the 4-yard piece—and you can also see how the 4-yard piece is sewn together—in the last minute of the video titled “Cutting Technique for the Carling Loves Cats Quilt Coat” on my Carling Loves Cats YouTube channel.)
  • DO NOT CUT OUT PATTERN PIECES OR QUILT. The first part of the class will focus on trying on the many styles and sizes of quilt coats. Please do not cut out the pattern or quilt prior to class.

PLEASE NOTE: Your class or venue may supply the sewing machines and/or irons. Please check with the organizer, venue, or me for specific class supplies.

HOUSTON INTERNATIONAL QUILT FESTIVAL CLASS ATTENDEES: Quilts, Inc. will supply your sewing machine, sewing machine feet, and irons. You will not need the first three items on the Tools and Supplies List, as they will be provided for you.

 

 

 

Carling Loves Cats QAYG Log Cabin Quilt Class

Supply List

Fabric and Materials:

  • 1 Jelly Roll (2½ inches wide strips, about 42 inches long, typically 40 strips)
  • 1.5 yards coordinating fabric for Quilt-As-You-Go binding and extra strips
  • Thread to match
  • Backing Fabric: 16 squares (15x15 inches each)
  • Batting: 16 squares (15x15 inches each)

  • Your sewing machine in good working order, foot control, and power cord
  • Quarter inch foot and walking foot (recommended)
  • Iron and heat-safe pressing mat
  • Sewing accessories including scissors, seam ripper, sewing pins or clips
  • 45mm rotary cutter and mat (18" x 24")
  • Quilting ruler (6" x 18") or similar

Before class:

  • Iron all fabric
  • Please do not cut the strips prior to class.
