Course Description
Join Carling Mabry—aerospace engineer turned quilt coat designer and creator of the bestselling Carling Loves Cats Quilt Coat Pattern—for a 60-minute introduction to the art of quilt coat making. With more than 20 years of experience in aerospace engineering on NASA’s Space Shuttle and International Space Station programs, Carling brings a unique perspective on design, structure, and creativity.
In this class, you’ll learn how to plan, visualize, and design your quilt coat, and understand what to consider when choosing both a quilt and a pattern. You’ll also discover how to use a traditional color wheel to guide your choices and find inspiration for repurposing quilts in creative ways, including: Finished vintage quilts, Vintage quilt blocks, pieces, or orphan blocks, or Store-bought quilts (updated or modified). You'll also take your designs further by looking at three very unique designs: rainbow gradient, t-shirts, and cheater fabrics.
This is not a step-by-step sewing class, but a brief and inspiring overview designed to help you choose the quilt coat pattern that’s right for you.
